When it comes to picking your wedding dress, you’ve probably got a good idea of what kind of style you’re going for but it never harms to look around for some inspiration, especially if you’re struggling to pick the perfect one.

Bridal magazines are a great place to start but checking out what your favourite famous females wore on their big days is also a perfect way to get some ideas for what kind of gown you want to sport down the aisle, so we’re going to be sharing with you 5 celebrity brides that are bound to inspire your style for your special day.

Meghan Markle

We can’t talk about A-Lister brides without mentioning the style icon of the moment, Meghan Markle and her truly breath-taking wedding gown that was revealed to the world just a matter of weeks ago.

A far simpler, more understated style than any of us could have ever have envisioned, Meghan’s gown was a minimalistic satin A-Line dress with boat neckline and full-length sleeves, designed by Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy.

If you want to channel a similar elegant but pared-down style to the newly named Duchess of Sussex, the Mori Lee Marquesa dress is a nearly identical style. Apart from the differing sleeves, the wide neckline and satin A-line shape with minimal detailing is a true reflection of the glamour of Meghan’s gown.

Kate Middleton

From one royal bride to another, Kate Middleton’s wedding dress took a very different style to Meghan’s, featuring far more detail and a more classic princess shape but both are equally as stunning.

Designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown has gone down in bridal history as one of the most iconic dresses to date, featuring a true ballgown shape and adorned with lace, and the star of the show, of course, is the beautifully crafted bodice.

Brides across the globe have been seeking identical dresses for their own big days, so if you’re keen to recreate the Duchess’ style for your own wedding, the Maggie Sottero Cordelia dress is a real nod to this infamous gown. The only noticeable difference between these two dresses is the neckline with the Cordelia gown showcasing a high rounded lace neckline with Kate’s plunged relatively low but aside from that, the two dresses are remarkably similar.

Michelle Keegan

Well known as a bit of a British style icon, it was no surprise that when Michelle Keegan stepped down the aisle in 2015 that her gown of choice became a real talking point with brides to be.

A stunning fit and flare shaped gown with sheer drop back, detailed strap sleeves and a plunging neckline, the now Mrs Wright very much chose a gown to show off her slender and curvaceous figure.

if you’re keen to imitate Michelle’s look from her big day and go for a detailed fit and flare gown then the Pronovias Prunelle gown is a perfect choice. A similar mermaid shape with a low cut, sheer back, these dresses differ slightly at the neckline but the general essence of the gown is extremely similar.

Idina Menzel

You may be more familiar with Idina’s voice than you are her face because she is, in fact, Elsa from Frozen. A Disney princess came to life when Idina got married in 2017, sporting a floating and understatedly glamorous lace gown for her American ceremony.

A slightly boho style with the bardot neckline and flowing skirt, Idina’s gown was lace from head to toe with short bell-style sleeves and a contrasting coloured belt tied at the waistline.

Idina’s dress is a truly unique style but if you want to sport a similar laid-back look on your big day, the Rebecca Ingram Mariah gown showcases features that truly do mirror those on Idina’s dress. Aside from the differing neckline, the general shape and style of the gown is a true match to Idina’s gown with the floating skirt and flowing train, as well as keeping the lace as the star of the show.

Serena Williams

Well known tennis player Serena Williams tied the knot in statement style with a dramatic and voluminous wedding gown that was designed to be remembered.

Traditions from varying cultures came together when Serena married Alexis Ohanian in a romantic ceremony but the dress was definitely the star of the show. A breath-taking ballgown shape with a strapless sweetheart neckline made with contrasting satin and chiffon fabrics, Serena added an embellished sheer shall to the look to cover her shoulders.

Serena’s dress was custom made by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the same as the Duchess of Cambridge but if you want an ‘off the shelf’ design with similar traits, the Mori Lee 5216 dress beautifully mirrors some of the key features from Serena’s gown. The skirt is the talking point of this celebs’ dress which is why the 5216 gown is a perfect choice with the dramatic chiffon skirt that accentuates from the waist, trailing behind. The neckline is also similar but this gown has a longer bodice and embellished detailing for extra wow.
